CHAPTER MEETING & GUEST SPEAKER

5:30 - 6:00 p.m.  - Networking and Social Time

6:00 - 6:30 p.m. - Dinner

6:30 - 7:30 p.m. “Planing and Building the Badger Mountain Trails" presented by Lisa Black & Sahron Grant-Ghan.

Lisa Black will detail the process that has gone into planning the building of the Badger Mountain trails.  She will contrast that with building trails on the west side of the mountains and compare the risk management specific to each.  Sharon Grant-Ghan will discuss the challenges of involving the public in the voluntary building and on-going maintenance of the trails and strategies for engaging them as stakeholders in the long term care of the ridges.

LISA BLACK

Lisa has been involved in volunteer based trail construction and maintenance programs for over 13 years.  She volunteers, and works seasonally, for Washington Trails Association as an Assistant or Chief Crew Leader on trail work parties throughout the state.  Locally, Lisa helped with layout and construction of Badger Mountain's Langdon Trail and periodically leads work parties or lends a hand on other Badger and Candy Mt trails.

SHARON GRANT-GHAN

Sharon is the co-founder of Friends of Badger Mountain which began in January of 2003.  She has headed up fundraising for the three major campaigns conducted by FOBM which have led to the preservation of over 850 acres of ridge land held in perpetuity for public recreational access.  In the four major trails built on Badger and the new trail on Candy, Sharon has coordinated or assisted with the outreach required to engage the public in building and maintaining these trails and, long term, for the public to see themselves as stakeholders of the ridge preserves.
