Timothy Veldman is the founder of Whitespace Innovative, a Tri-Cities-based applied engineering consultancy. With a career spanning the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy, he specializes in translating deep scientific concepts into real-world deployable technologies across chemical processing, separation systems, and advanced reactors. Tim is the inventor of multiple U.S. patents, including innovations in electrochemical reactors, thermal systems, and consumer products. With his novel engineering method, Design Practice, the Whitespace team brings complex technologies out of the lab and into the market. This includes technical contributions to a recent product launch by a Fortune 500 company and helping a small local company expand its product line.
Mike Beck is an R&D Consultant at Whitespace Innovative, where he helps translate complex engineering challenges into practical, deployable solutions. With a background in mechanical engineering, military service, and technical sales, he focuses on bridging technical execution with real-world project outcomes
"Management of Research and Developing Projects - A Fundamental Understanding of the Prototyping Process"
Explore how successful R&D teams turn ideas into impactful solutions. In this session, we break down the prototyping process and show how feedback loops drive smarter decision‑making, faster learning, and better outcomes. You’ll gain a practical understanding of how iterative development really works—what to expect, how to plan for constant change, and how to guide your project from concept to refinement with confidence.
Whether you're a project manager looking to sharpen your approach or someone collaborating with R&D teams for the first time, this presentation will help you navigate the dynamic, sometimes messy, but always rewarding world of iterative innovation.
